FDA renewal: check the product, facility and due date first
Food, devices and cosmetics follow different registration rules. A private certificate is not proof of FDA approval.

Timing: 2026 food renewal window is open. Other due dates depend on the applicable programme.
Does this affect my business?
Businesses making, processing, holding or importing relevant products for the US, and brands checking their suppliers’ arrangements.
What do we know?
Food facilities: required registrations renew in October–December of even-numbered years, including 2026. FDA charges no registration or renewal fee. A broker or trader is not automatically a registrable food facility; identify the actual activity and any exemption. Updating details is not the same as completing renewal.
Medical devices: establishment registration and listing are reviewed annually between 1 October and 31 December. The applicable establishment fee must normally be paid before registration is completed. Check current FDA fee and eligibility guidance instead of using an estimated fee from a video. Registration does not establish device clearance or approval.
Cosmetics: facility renewal is every two years from initial registration, rather than a universal December deadline. Product listing is a separate responsibility. MoCRA has defined small-business exemptions and product exceptions; do not infer an exemption from turnover alone. FDA does not issue documents certifying cosmetics registration compliance.
Before paying an intermediary, obtain the official submission or status information for the right facility. Ask which work is a private service, who is the US agent where required, and who retains access to the official account. This is not a blanket requirement for every online seller to register as a factory.

| Question | What to check | Useful next step |
|---|---|---|
| Which programme and legal role apply? | Food, cosmetics, device or another category; facility, importer and responsible-person duties differ. | Identify the product and actual business activity. |
| Is the existing registration current? | Facility name/address, renewal date and completed official submission. | Ask the supplier or present agent for confirmation. |
| What am I being charged for? | Official fee, US-agent work and private administration listed separately. | Use the relevant FDA guidance; do not rely on a decorative certificate. |
You can use this checklist yourself or with your existing adviser. To ask OCW, describe the missing facts in your own words. This article is available for reading and manual follow-up; it does not enable an automatic answer for this topic.
