Shopify policy templates and translations: what still needs checking?
Automation can update text, but the published policy must match what your business actually does.

Does this affect my business?
Shopify merchants using automated policies or adding storefront languages and markets.
What do we know?
Check the promise you publish. Shopify can generate and maintain supported policies from store settings. The merchant remains responsible for accuracy, missing information and compliance. Read the visible returns, shipping, contact and cancellation terms against your actual fulfilment and support process.
Check language access in your own store. Current Translate & Adapt guidance describes eight automatic languages plus Auto-sync for listed store countries, or stores displaying Translate now. Other countries generally have two automatic languages and no Auto-sync. This is not a universal eight-language entitlement. Legal policies need manual translation.
Test the whole purchase path. Our practical suggestion is to open one product, cart, checkout and policy page in each published language. Check sizes, materials, warnings, delivery limits and return instructions. Record what the translation omits and have the existing translator or adviser correct it; a language selector does not show that every legal or product field is translated.
Start with these checks. You may already have what you need.
| Question | What to check | Useful next step |
|---|---|---|
| Does the policy match what my business does? | Published text, fulfilment settings, return costs and contact details. | Correct factual gaps before enabling automation. |
| What translation features does my store actually have? | Store country, Translate now/Auto-translate and Auto-sync availability. | Use the current app screen and help guidance. |
| Can a customer complete the journey in that language? | Product details, checkout and manually translated legal policies. | Review one complete path and fix missing text. |
You can use this checklist yourself or with your existing adviser. To ask OCW, describe the missing facts in your own words. This article is available for reading and manual follow-up; it does not enable an automatic answer for this topic.
