Amazon promotions: will extra orders leave any profit?

What do we know?
Use the current fee notice. Amazon’s 2026 holiday announcement covers Best Deals, Lightning Deals and Prime Exclusive Price Discounts with an upfront US$100 fee and a 1.5% variable sales fee capped at US$5,000. Its US$50 saving is tied to specified early-submission dates. Do not treat US$50 as the unconditional standard event fee.
Keep fulfilment costs distinct. The notice gives 15 October 2026–14 January 2027 for holiday peak fulfilment fees and directs sellers to current calculators and reports. Those are not the same thing as one universal seasonal storage rate. Use the actual fulfilment option, size and current fee preview.
Calculate contribution, not only revenue. As a practical worksheet, deduct product cost, promotion charges, advertising, referral and fulfilment costs, and an allowance for refunds/returns from sales proceeds. Divide fixed campaign cost by a realistic number of paid orders. Compare that result with your ordinary trading period before deciding whether to scale, change the offer or stop.
Start with these checks. You may already have what you need.
| Question | What to check | Useful next step |
|---|---|---|
| Which promotion and fee apply? | Marketplace, event, tool, actual invoice and submission date. | Match the campaign to the current notice and fee preview. |
| What does one additional order contribute? | Net proceeds less product, platform, fulfilment, advertising and returns costs. | Calculate with your SKU’s actual figures. |
| Does the campaign justify more stock or spend? | Incremental contribution, sell-through and remaining stock. | Compare with a normal period before changing the next budget. |
